    Secret Invasion: X-Men #4

    Published by Marvel Comics
    January, 2009

With his hostages rounded up, Commander H’kurrek summons his last remaining partial psychic to deliver a message to the X-Men: Surrender, or the hostages will be killed.

Cyclops decides they have no choice but deploy their doomsday weapon, a modified version of The Legacy Virus set up to kill Skrulls instead of mutants.

They surrender to the Skrulls and are immediately brought before the Commander. After some banter, an urgent report comes in regarding the Skrull transport ships crashing. It would seem that the first infected Skrulls were already dying.

Faced with bringing the plague back to his family, H’kurrek sounds the self-immolation of the entire fleet at San Francisco. The X-Men narrowly escape as the entire Skrull fleet is destroyed, preventing the virus from ever reaching any other Skrulls.

The city of San Francisco is released from the alien’s grasp, and the citizens are extremely grateful to the X-Men.

    December, 2008

The psychic Skrulls maintaining the thought wall have identified Emma Frost as attacking it, and pounce on her. It would seem that the second she reached out to the wall, her mind was disconnected from her body, rendering her legally dead. Cyclops orders the Cuckoos to keep her body going until she has a chance to return.

As the psychic Skrulls break down Emma’s defenses, Cannonball’s team take out a few drop ships. One Skrull breaks through Emma’s inner barrier, and she pretends to be defenseless.

With that, she kills the psychic Skrulls and returns to her body, taking the Thought-Wall down as well. Scott is grateful.

Anole discovers that the Skrulls are rounding up people by the thousands and sealing them inside buildings central to the city.

Kurt struggles with the psychic orb trying to convert him, and Hank studies the physiology of the Super-Skrull brought to his lab. He finds a way to stop them from shape-shifting, but it will take three years to synthesize the right proteins. As he continues to work, Kurt visits him, explaining about the orb and how he can’t get it out of his head now. As Hank examines it, he figures out the perfect weapon to use against the Skrulls: The Legacy Virus.

As the X-Men figure out the Skrulls plan to kill thousands of people in a few central buildings, Hank presents their doomsday option with a stipulation, once released, it will kill every Skrull who ever comes in contact with it. Releasing the virus would mean genocide.

    November, 2008

The psychic bible-sphere continues to try to convert Kurt while the Super-Skrulls try to squeeze the life out of him and the rest of Cyclops’ squad. Cyclops orders a ‘vertical push’, so Kurt takes two of the skrulls with him high into the sky via teleport, dropping them from great heights. With six more Super-Skrulls joining the attack, Scott signals the rest of the X-Men for backup. Pixie is able to evac Scott’s team.

The X-Men retreat back to their HQ, and prep for their next attacks. With so many Skrulls in the city, they have no choice but to fight guerilla-style, popping up in random areas and taking out as much Skrull tech and infantry as possible, gathering intel along the way. Scott orders Beast to find a secret weapon to use against the Skrulls, and Kurt wrestles with the sphere about religion conversion.

Emma and the Stepford Cuckoos attempt to combine their power so that Emma can bring down the wall. Emma seems to die trying.

Pixie acts as bait and the members of X-Force are able to kill and capture a Super-Skrull for Hank to use in his search for a secret weapon.

    October, 2008

The Skrull invasion fleet arrives in San Francisco, and despite the good intentions of the local police, the Skrulls quickly gain control. In come the X-Men, and the Skrulls are shocked. It would seem that their intel didn’t show the X-Men living in California, so the Skrulls are completely blindsided by the group showing up. Not to say that the Skrulls weren’t trained for this type of scenario.

Just as Emma was providing a battle report to Scott, the Skrulls put up their psychic barrier, the Thought-Wall, which cripples the X-Men’s psychics.

The X-Men had taken some hostages in an effort to gain intel on their enemy, and Kurt picked up a small sphere carried by the Skrulls’ priest. It begins talking to him psychically, connecting to his memories, and attempting to convert him to the Skrull religion.

It doesn’t have much time, as they are interrupted by the Skrulls’ first wave of Super-Skrulls.
